Global carbon emissions
The burning of fossil fuels—solids like coal, liquids like gasoline, and gases like natural gas—help power the world's industries and transportation. As a side effect, this combustion (along with the production of cement) produces carbon dioxide, a long-lived gas which absorbs and emits infrared radiation, warming the planet. The CDIAC at App State project uses data about fuel production, imports, exports, stocks, and more to estimate carbon emissions from fossil fuel combustion and cement production for nations around the world.
